Order of Operations

We are starting our lessons on Order of Operations. For those students who need a little extra push in math, because they find the current math to be too easy, here is a video to help them learn the whole order of operations. :) They will be working with this video to go a bit more in depth in class!

We had an amazing opportunity today... we had a Google Hangout with Joe Delgrave, an athlete on the USA Paralympic Wheelchair Rugby Team.  I am so proud of the 5th Graders and the questions they were asking.  These students were very curious but made sure they asked questions in a way that would not offend him. The students asked about his sport, how he became involved in it, how he made the USA Team, what his game day ritual is, etc. Below is a picture I took during their discussion.

Here is his interview from when he was selected to play for the USA.

More Laughter From 5th Grade!

It is always a great moment when students find something they are really good at!  This student has the wonderful ability to make people laugh... which made Laughing Therapy perfect for him!  Today he took a moment and led the class in his own Laughing Therapy session.  Awesome job!  Students, keep using your skills in a positive way.  I am so proud of all of you!

Laughing Therapy?!

Last week I attended a "New Teacher Training" on laughter and how important it is.  Did you know children laugh about 120 times a day and adults only 17?!  That was extremely sad to me.  We discussed laughing therapy and came across this video.  I tried this one with the students and it instantly became a favorite.  I mean, who wouldn't laugh watching 22 wonderful 5th Graders trying this!! :)  Enjoy!
