Interjections

Students are learning about INTERJECTIONS. Our goal is to have them feel comfortable enough to confidently use interjections within their writing.  They have done a wonderful job of including onomatopoeias to add the sense of sound, now adding interjections will help get a characters feelings across. Here is a wonderful "School House Rock" video to help remind them what interjections are. (This video sure brings me back, haha!)

Love Monsters!

I absolutely LOVE watching the 5th Graders lead their 2nd Grade Buddies in creating a project.  Yesterday, students guided their buddy in creating a Love Monster. Students who finished early then added a writing piece to their monster.

Thirteen Coloinies

Students: If you are having a hard time with Social Studies, or if you love it and can't get enough... here are some videos to help you. :)

MLK Project

Our class spent one full week researching and discussing Martin Luther King and all of the positive things he had accomplished for our country.  After learning about his history students were given a driving question: "How does Glenbrook demonstrate respect and equality for all people?"  Using what they have learned, students had to answer this question any way possible. I am so incredibly proud of their creativity and success from this project. I absolutely love that all of the projects were completely different, and majority of the technology was done on their own! It always impresses me what they are capable of when you give them an open ended question, and an iPad. Amazing Job 5th Graders!

5th Grade Derby

Students had the challenge to take everything the learned from our science unit and create a car, with a sail, that could travel as far as possible by wind power.  Each class raced their cars, then the winning team from each class went against the other winning teams from 5th Grade.  Our team came out on top!Video- 5th Grade Derby

Simile/Metaphor

Around Christmas Time students were learning about Similes and Metaphors.  We started off with the lyrics from "The Grinch" and students had to locate as many as they could.  Once they were finished they had to create their own lyrics.  Two of our students created lyrics that went perfectly to the tune, so they ended up taping them in front of the green screen. Turned out adorable!
